Elevator Pitch #1: Future Pay

Opportunity: Especially on weekend nights, the lines to get into Midtown bars can get very long with people having to stop, pay cover, and show IDs. Lines often end up running down the sidewalks and create large crowds where people are often forced to walk on the street, which is very dangerous.

Solution: An app called Future Pay where you are able to pay ahead of time which will eliminate lines and overall crowded sidewalks in Midtown. There will be an ID scan button. This will benefit both college students and the bouncers. People will simply show the bouncer at the door their payment confirmation on their app. The bouncers will be able to view on the confirmation whether people are under/over 21 years old. However, they will still check IDs at the door.

  1. Your idea is very practical. you know your audience and have honed in on a local need. your vocabulary is convincing and professional. i really wish you would have put a little more emphasis on your pitch. the more excited you are about your idea the more other people can easily get excited and support you!

  2. Hey Amy, this is a very interesting idea. Assuming you could get everyone to use it you could save a lot of time if everyone prepaid. The bouncers would definitely have to check IDs again at the door though. And you would probably have to have some way to verify that a person is the person who paid, but you could do that by simply putting their name on the receipt page they show the bouncer to get in.

  3. Hi Amy,

As somebody who develops apps, this is a very cool idea. There are definitely some kinks that need to be ironed out but overall this would totally benefit bar-goers and bar-owners! Win-win situation. There's definitely a lot of room for innovation in the social scene and I think something like this would be great.

Here's a link to my pitch if you'd like to check it out: Hi Cassie,

That's a very interesting idea! You're definitely going after a big issue that's tough to track down. Although I do think that at the end of the day, no number of laws could prevent something like this I do believe that a solution that is as proactive as yours could definitely mitigate the issue. You had a great pitch, and considering that the problem you're trying to solve is insanely difficult I think you're solution was very adequate!

  4. Hey Amy,
Your idea is very intriguing. I think it would be difficult to get the midtown bars to latch on to this idea though. As everyone knows, several bars at midtown make a good portion of their money from underage customers using fake-IDs. Kids using fake-IDs would be very hesitant to use this system, and I believe the bar owners probably know this and would not want to implement it. I think your idea would work well in a bar strip that does not have a college crowd, such as the nightlife in Miami, where clubs are even more crowded with an older customer base.

  5. I think you have found an interesting solution to a big problem, especially in midtown where there is a ton of people and very little space. I think bars would like the fact that it’s safer for the people that want to get in and it would be more convenient for everyone that uses it. However I agree with Riley Cobo about the fact that the bars in midtown make a lot of money by letting underage students in.

  6. OMG I love the idea of future pay! I just downloaded the Starbucks app to my phone for that very reason! It’s much like what you’re talking about. I just order on the app, put my nearest location, pay, and then by the time I get there it is ready! It saves me so much time! They should have it everywhere!
